It is still to be proven that the internet can be the ultimate panacea. Can it save the earth?- bring in peace and remove all inequalities, the jury has not even been called for. Yes, the business world stands to benefit from the internet - we have already witnessed the enthusiastic acceptance of email as a tool of communication. Also, with the Internet being an open network, it may give more power to individual citizens, and encourage democracy. But what else? CAN IT BRING IN UNIVERSAL LITERACY? Remember the DIGITAL
DIVIDE everyone is so concerned about? The fact is that the poor are not refusing technology because they cannot afford it, it is because they lack the skills to exploit it effectively.. A better educational method might help us all.

Wondersoft recognizes that the key to an educational revolution in India has to start from the grassroots level. There are about 1.4 million( and growing) internet users in India but the quality of Internet access is low. Reasons- as usual, paucity of adequate bandwidth and the slow pace of telecom liberalization. So, how do you ensure, for example, that a high school in Bihar has access to the best educational guidance and content on the internet? One way is to PUSH the best content to the school's server at pre-determined timings (weekly or every 3 days). Once it is stored on the school's local server, students can access the content on the fast school intranet.

This is the grassroots level solution that Wondersoft aims to promote. Our iSchool2000 intranet solution will be installed in the school. It can be a school with just a couple of computers or one with 200. Once the solution is installed, the content delivery to the intranet will start. We will form a consortium of the best content providers to help us.

As part of our initiatives to promote Quality Education in India, Wondersoft is also launching a magazine for the new education. DIGITAL LEARNING is meant for all educators and everyone else in the field of education. It will focus on the impact of technology on education. It will feature case studies about innovative educational initiatives from around the world, articles from renowned educators and more. DIGITAL LEARNING will serve as a forum for everyone involved with education.

For technology to have a real pervasive effect, it has to be flexible and open to modifications. Moreover, it has to be affordable. The open source movement, witnessed in the success of the Linux operating system, and Apache Web server, will help technology bring widespread changes. Wondersoft is committed to the Open source movement. In a developing nation such as India, using the open source platform means cheaper solutions. Think about affordable & flexible software solutions being used by educational institutions, government offices and general businesses. That day is not far. iSchool2000 has been developed completely on the open source platform. It features the Linux Operating System and MySQL database management system.

Another of Wondersoft's Open Source Platform-based solution is iOffice2000, which is meant for small and medium sized enterprises- it is also based on the Linux Operating System and is pre-installed with office productivity applications.
